Getting Involved with This Web Site

Betcha thought that I am extending my hand out to be crossed with gold, or other forms of alms or pittances, huh?

  NOPE!

In case you are curious, the background picture is of a surfer that I scanned from 07/21/08 edition of The San Diego Union-Tribune newspaper.  I did not use descreen mode and in fact enhanced the half-tone effect.

I am soliciting more photos, memorabilia and newspaper or magazine clippings.

I am grateful for the photos and newspaper clippings received so far.  Although fairly recent items are appreciated, what would really be fun are school days pictures and post graduation photos.  Achievements, honors, recognitions, etc.

Listed below are several options.

SCANNING

if you have a home scanner or a multipurpose fax/copier/scanner, the procedure is probably self-explanatory to scan to a JPEG 300 dpi image.  Please use "descreen" mode for half-tone newspaper photos.

COMMERCIAL ESTABLISHMENTS

Companies such as Kinko's, Staples, Office Depot, etc. can scan your photos or other items and convert to digital format.  300 dpi BMP or JPEG format is great.

DIGITAL CAMERAS

Most digital cameras have a macro mode for close-up shooting of photos or other items.  Do not use flash when shooting perpendicular to glass - shoot from side as example below!  Incandescent or halogen or fluorescent lighting is okay - I can tweak for color, brightness, contrast and perspective.  Framed photographs are okay but beware of reflections on the glass.  Include the frame if you wish.  Shoot photo with some space around the object to allow for perspective correction and crop line edges.  Solid objects such as trophies or plaques are also candidates.

Please include name(s), approximate date and location if appropriate.  If you have a great picture that has someone or something in it that you don't like, let me know and I can eliminate it.

You can email digital items to me at Eric@WHS1959class.info or Eric@Cookston.com

You can postal mail items to me at Eric H Cookston, 3811 Canning Avenue, San Diego, CA  38111-3801, but you do so at the risk of damage or loss of one-of-a-kind items.  Duplicate photos are okay.
